Organizing Impact: Organizing, Community Service and Environmentalism

Organizing Impact: Organizing, Community Service and Environmentalism

Susan Charbonneau

One reason behind the genesis of The Streamlined Space was to increase awareness of an often overlooked motivator to declutter: the fact that someone in your community could truly benefit from those clothes you have in a bag in your closet. Capitalizing the intersection of  organizing, community service, and environmentalism can have a significant impact on all three.

An organizer’s network of charities and campaigns is one of the major benefits of retaining an organizer. To help make the most of the decluttering process, we even stockpile decluttered items in company storage spaces to align with community initiatives like Hockey drives, etc., meaning that less will go to waste just because the timing isn’t right for donation. We also ask clients if any causes are meaningful to them, thereby making the impact of decluttering their home even greater. Time and time again, these efforts make it much easier for clients to let go of objects that have a hard time decluttering.

Ultimately, clients have not only limited the amount of material going to landfill, but have also created mental space for themselves and positively impacted their community. Organizing in this way is a win - win - win.
